Description: while often considered insignificant in importance in comparison to the variety of other lighting, the lighting in parking garages has a crucial and unique role in the safety and security of vehicles but especially in persons more than any other lighting.

Usually parking garages are considered dim, dark, dirty and dangerous places which are forgotten in an architectural project. Even when this image is rapidly changing as parking garages become more up scale, there is still a lack of information regarding this subject.
For that reason, I decided to go deeper into this subject and focus my thesis in the “Lighting in parking garages”, where I analysed existing parking garages with the main focus on SAFETY, SECURITY and ORIENTATION, related of course with light and lighting, to conclude with a lighting design proposal where quantity and quality of light are very important issues, as well as energy saving and design are.
